Office of Information Technology is committed to providing technology to enhance the learning experience. Services include:
Instructional Technology: Includes computer classrooms, presentation classrooms/meeting rooms, classrooms with network access, and over 20 computer labs with high-speed laser printers available for faculty and student use. Blackboard is used for web-based instruction.
UT Campus Network: Campus buildings are connected to a redundant high-speed fiber-optic backbone capable of gigabit speeds. 100 Mbps of band width is available for Internet access. The network has over 6,500 connections throughout the campus. All academic areas and residence hall rooms are equipped with network access. To connect to the network, plug into any yellow network jack. 46 dial-in lines connecting 56kb modems provide remote access. Dial-in number is 813-253-6253.
UT Wireless Network: IEEE 802.11b/g wireless access is available. Select the SSID
UoT to connect to the UT Wireless Network. You will be required to enter your email username and password for access. Locations for the UT Wireless Network are identified by UT Wireless Network Zone signs. Click sign for locations and more information.
Students may sign out wireless network adapters from the MacDonald-Kelce Library or the Vaughn Center Information Desk. Faculty and Staff can contact the IT Help Desk to sign out wireless network adapters.

Computer Security: All computer systems connecting to the campus network are required to have current licensed antivirus software, up-to-date definition files,security patches, and anti-spyware software. The
UT Internet Gateway is a service that verifies antivirus software and security patch status on all computers using the UT Campus Network in the residence halls. For more information,

- eSearch.ut.edu - access to library reference sites.
- Track-It Web – faculty and staff can create technology service requests which are submitted to the IT HelpDesk and also search a knowledge base for problem resolution. (Only accessible from on campus.)

Computers, Software & Printers: There are well over a thousand PC and Macintosh computers and over 400 printers on campus. Most computers are replaced with current technology after three years. Current versions of Microsoft Windows/Mac OS and office software are licensed for faculty/staff and lab computers.
IT Help Desk, ext. 6293,
helpdesk@ut.edu: The Office of Information Technology Help Desk is located in the Jaeb Computer Center Room CC-113 and is available to assist faculty/staff with technology issues. Help Desk hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency evening assistance is also available by calling the IT Help Desk (ext. 6293). Just follow the instructions, and leave a message along with your contact information.
Student Help Desk, ext. 6255,
studenthelp@ut.edu: The Student Help Desk is located in the Vaughn Computer Lab Room 233A and is available to assist students with UT Campus Network access and antivirus software issues. Student Help Desk hours are from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Emergency evening assistance is also available by calling the Student Help Desk (ext. 6255). Just follow the instructions, and leave a message along with your contact information.
Information Systems Support: Includes computer hardware and software supporting administrative processes for student services, financial and institutional development systems.
Faculty, Staff and Student Computer and Software Discounts: As a member of the UT family you are eligible for a discount from
CDW-G on Lenovo, HP, Toshiba, and Acer products, on your next computer purchase. Discounted software is available by clicking

Services for Faculty and Staff: - Home Directories: All full time faculty and staff are provided access to central server storage space. Each individual is assigned a storage folder with the capacity of 500 MB; this folder is known as a home directory. The home directory is provided as an additional means for backing up your critical files and documents. For information on using your home directory click here.
- UT Virtual Private Network Connection for PCs and MACs: Faculty and staff are provided access to the UT Campus Network through a Virtual Private Network (VPN). VPN is a secure connection to the UT Campus Network form off campus using your home high-speed Internet service, such as DSL, Cable Modem, or Verizon FIOS. Go to https://secure.ut.edu for VPN access. - Faculty/Staff Training: Training is available for faculty and staff on e-mail, Internet, Windows, Mac OS, MSOffice, and web page authoring. Please send an e-mail to helpdesk@ut.edu to schedule training.
