Student Employment

Student Activities Office employees are an integral part of the leadership program. More than 100 students work as Student Activities employees. Positions range from intramural officials to P.E.A.C.E. coordinators. With a variety of positions available, students can learn new skills and develop leadership abilities.

Employment Opportunities

Spartan Club Attendants
Spartan Club employees must be responsible, independent, and customer-service oriented individuals who are comfortable working as a team in a social environment, while enforcing Spartan Club policies and procedures. The Spartan Club Attendant is in charge of running the recreation area (second floor) of the Spartan Club.

The responsibilities of Spartan Club employees are:
  1. Maintain a safe, friendly environment
  2. Follow all Spartan Club policies and procedures
  3. Demonstrate responsibility in cash handling procedures
  4. Work some weekend and night hours and opening and closing shifts
  5. Perform minor maintenance and upkeep of the Spartan Club
  6. Perform other assigned duties

Information Desk Attendants
The role of Information Desk Attendant (IDA) is to provide University knowledge and services to the campus community and guests of The University of Tampa. The IDA carries out the daily responsibilities of customer service and daily operations in order to make sure the Vaughn Center is a symbol of the University's commitment customer pride and service.

The responsibilities of the Information Desk Attendant are:
  1. Gather, organize, and provide information on The University of Tampa including activities, services, directions, etc. to the campus community and guests
  2. Supervise the building when professional staff are not available
  3. Inspect and setup rooms correctly
  4. Be accessible to customers and event sponsors at all times.
  5. Greet individuals who have reserved any Vaughn Center facility at scheduled times
  6. Manage all postings in the Vaughn Center
  7. Support all operations areas of the Vaughn Center and Student Activities Office including 24-hour information desk, Spartan Club, Laser Team and McNiff Fitness Center

LASER Team Drivers
The job of the LASER Team is to provide a secure and safe campus environment for students, staff, and faculty on campus at night by providing escorts and patrolling the campus. The LASER Team also acts as an educating group for students of the University community.

The responsibilities of the LASER Team Driver are:

  1. Serve as an on-campus escort for the campus community to ensure safety to their destination
  2. Help support campus security by upholding all policies and procedures
  3. Help create a secure and safe environment for the campus community
  4. Provide assistance by driving members of the campus community to their points of destination

Intramural Sports Officials
Responsible for the officiating and/or keeping score for intramural sports. Team sports where officials will be needed include: softball, basketball, volleyball and soccer. Additional work will be available with individual/duel sports, meets, and tournaments. Previous officiating experience is not necessary. A rules clinic and training program is held prior to each sport. Flexible hours. Student Employment and Federal Work-Study applications accepted.


McNiff Fitness Center Desk Attendants
Responsible for monitoring the operation of the fitness center, including: checking validated UT ID cards, signing up new patrons, maintaining and distributing equipment, and ensuring a safe environment. Attendants must be dependable and comfortable with enforcing University and McNiff Fitness Center policies. Federal Work-Study eligible applicants only.


Cass Street Gym Attendants
Responsible for monitoring nightly gym activities of the recently acquired Cass Street Gym (formerly Tampa Prep Gym), including: checking validated UT ID cards, check-in/out of sports equipment, and ensuring a safe environment. Position to begin in early September, with night-time hours (8 p.m. to 1 a.m.). A training session will be held prior to the start of the position. Student Employment and Federal Work-Study applications accepted.


P.E.A.C.E. Coordinators
Assist students in identifying volunteer opportunities in the Tampa Bay area and plan volunteer events for UT faculty, staff and students. P.E.A.C.E. coordinators are paid $6.00/hr. P.E.A.C.E. (People Exploring Active Community Experience) also sponsors volunteer events for the campus community. More than 250 nonprofit agencies are registered with P.E.A.C.E., which documented more than 17,000 community/campus service hours performed by the UT community last academic year.


America Reads Program Tutors
Get paid to tutor children in reading and comprehension skills in area elementary schools. Some training is required as well as transportation to the school that you choose. Great for education students or anyone who would like to make a difference in the life of a child.

Working in the Student Activities Office is a great way to help pay for school or earn extra income. Job hours are flexible with positions available for all hours and days. The Student Activities Office is proud to add the student Employee of the Year Award to be announced at the annual Leadership Awards Night.
