Telephone Services

Long Distance:

Students can access long distance access by using the authorization code sent from E.C.C.I. This code and an information packet is sent prior to students' arrival on campus. If you have lost your code or did not receive a packet, please call E.C.C.I. at 1-888-YES-ECCI for assistance.

Calling cards may also be used for long distance calls. All calling cards and long distance access acquired by you must be charged to your home telephone number. Students are not to provide their room telephone numbers for billing purposes when applying for calling cards or other telephone, long distance, or Internet services.

Important: Your UT-sponsored E.C.C.I. authorization code is usable from any student phone on campus, so keep your authorization code private. All calls made using your authorization code will be your responsibility to pay.

Important: All calls made from your room are the financial responsibility of the occupants of that room at the time of the call(s) in question. Do not allow access to your room while you are not there.

Call Waiting:

All student phone lines have call waiting free of charge. Call waiting works exclusively within the campus telephone system. Each student has the option of activating call waiting on their telephone. Should call waiting not be active on your telephone, please call x 7411 to request activation. You will need to identify your extension number.

Note: Due to the availability of student voicemail, some students have chosen to forward incoming callers to their voicemail box when they are on the telephone. This will override the call-waiting feature. To deactivate the “busy” forwarding function and re-establish call waiting, you will need to obtain a dial tone and then press #-3. Keep in mind that the previous student may not have selected call-waiting service. If so, you must call x 7411 to activate the service.

Phone Service Help: Please call x 7411. Remember to leave name, residence hall, room number, extension number, and as accurate a description of the problem as possible.

Voicemail:

Voicemail is provided to all students on and off campus free of charge. Each student's private voicemail box is accessible through a user-defined security code. When initially accessing your voicemail box, you will be prompted to follow a tutorial that will assist you in setting up your name, greeting and security code. After completion of the tutorial, you will then need to forward your callers from your telephone to your voicemail box.

To forward your calls into voicemail box, you should obtain a dial tone and press *-5-6213. This will set telephone to transfer caller to your voicemail box after four rings if you do not pick up. To forward your incoming calls into voicemail while you are on the telephone, press *-3-6213 after you have obtained a new dial tone.

Note: If you set telephone to transfer caller to your voicemail when line is busy, then you will not receive the call waiting tone.
