Residence Halls

The University of Tampa provides many lifestyle options. Continuing students are given first choice of rooms for the following academic year. Brevard Hall, Urso Hall, ResCom apartments and Straz Hall apartments house upper-class students. The majority of first-year students live in the Boathouse, Austin Hall, McKay Hall, Smiley Hall, Stadium Center or the Vaughn Center. Some of our students will be assigned to our overflow facility.

Each building offers different floor plans. Most new students are expected to share rooms with at least one other student. New students may also be assigned to triple or quad rooms. Singles are reserved for upper-class continuing students. Learning communities provide opportunities for students to live together based on similar interests.

All student rooms are air-conditioned. Cable television and local telephone service (with voice mailbox) are included in room rates. Each room is furnished with a bed (36 x 80 inches), desk, chair, closet/wardrobe and dresser. Students living on campus have free Internet access through Ethernet connections in their rooms. There are lounges, vending machines, laundry facilities, game rooms and study areas in all buildings. The McNiff Fitness Center is a 6,000 sq.-ft. facility with equipment and classes.

In each residence hall, area coordinators supervise specially selected and trained resident assistants. Head residents manage smaller residence halls and report to area coordinators. Office of Residence Life staff assist students and promote an atmosphere conducive to academic achievement, personal growth and physical well-being. Students can pursue many leadership opportunities through residence hall positions and organizations.

All residence halls are smoke free. Austin Hall, Boathouse, McKay Hall, Smiley Hall, Stadium Center and Vaughn Center (floors 3-8) are alcohol-free residence halls.

Alfred and Beverly Austin Hall
	Alfred and Beverly Austin Hall  opened in fall 1998, and houses 425 students who live in suite rooms with two double rooms or one double and one triple room sharing one bath. This state-of-the-art nine story facility houses both men and women, and includes rooms specially fitted for physically-disabled students. A number of single rooms for continuing upper-class students also are available.
Boathouse
	The Boathouse is home to 17 residents. Located on the banks of the Hillsborough River, it is convenient to the library and Plant Hall. Residents enjoy the small community, and a large deck overlooking the river and downtown skyline.
Brevard Hall
	Brevard Hall opened its doors in fall 2000 and is home to 460 men and women. Suite-style rooms with shared bathroom and common area and the option of either a private or shared bedroom make Brevard Hall a very attractive place for upper-class students to live. Brevard Hall has ample study space and social spaces on the first floor. The L-shaped building creates an ideal courtyard for relaxing outdoors. Each suite has a living room between the bedrooms, providing plenty of space where residents can gather.
David A. Straz Jr. Hall
	David A. Straz Jr. Hall, the newest apartment-style hall, opened in fall 2003. Straz Hall is eight stories high and houses 480 residents. Each apartment has a full kitchen, shared bathroom, living area where students can gather and four single sleeping rooms. On the first floor there is plenty of community space where residents can study and socialize, either inside or outside.
Urso Hall
	Urso Hall opened in fall 2006. Located conveniently across the street from the main entrance to campus, this 11-story building houses 182 upperclass and graduate students. The residence hall has single and double apartments with mini-kitchens and private bathrooms.
McKay Hall
	McKay Hall, recently refurbished, is a two-story residence hall designed for 190 men and women. Located on the bank of the Hillsborough River, it is conveniently located next to Plant Hall and the library. On the west side of McKay (Plant Hall side) are double rooms that have their own external entrances. Two double rooms share a bathroom. The east side (riverside) features double and triple rooms along an interior hallway sharing common hall bathrooms.
Rescom
	Rescom, UT’s on-campus apartment complex, is home to 235 upper-class students. Predominantly seniors and juniors, ResCom residents enjoy living in four-bedroom/one-bathroom apartments, each with a full kitchen (including oven, stove and full-size refrigerator) and a living room. Many second- and third-floor apartments have balconies, as well. The ResCom Clubhouse is the site for many special programs and events. The big-screen TV, pool table and kitchenette create a place for residents to relax. ResCom’s courtyard, a hot spot on campus, has BBQ grills and picnic tables.
Smiley
	Smiley, UT’s smallest “traditional” residence hall, is built around a sunny courtyard, and houses 130 men and women. Known for its close-knit community, it is located in the center of campus on the Flagpole Circle next to Plant Hall. Almost all the rooms in Smiley are double rooms and share a suite bath.
Stadium Center
	Stadium Center opened in fall 2007 and houses 448 residents. These residents live in double rooms and have access to eight new dining venues. Each suite has a small living room and two double rooms that share a bathroom. The residents of this seven-story building also have the use of a large community room with a TV and kitchen on the second floor.
Vaughn Center
	The Vaughn Center opened its doors in 2001. This nine-story multi-purpose facility was designed to re-center the social and residential life of UT students. Floors 3-8 house 525 students. Rooms in this hall are double or triple occupancy. While most rooms are suited to share a bath, several rooms contain their own baths. Students use a proximity card for elevator access to residential floors. The first two floors and the ninth floor include student dining, conference center, a two story cyber café, recreational area, student office space, computer lab and campus bookstore. The third floor has a small meeting room for tutoring and studying, a large community room with cozy furniture, and a full kitchen. Each floor has a small study or gather space.
