UT License Plate Now on Sale

Published: November 17, 2003
Students, supporters, and alumni have one more way to show their pride in the University of Tampa – through the purchase of a shiny, new UT license plate.

The plate is now being sold throughout Florida at county tax collector offices. The cost is $25 per year in addition to the normal registration fee, which averages about $34 annually. The plate features the school’s red, gold, and black colors, as well as UT’s signature minaret.

Last year, Floridians spent more than $23 million buying specialty plates, according to Hillsborough County Tax Collector Doug Belden.

The program began in 1987 with the Space Shuttle Challenger plate. Now, more than 70 tags are available, including 31 from Florida colleges and universities.

President Ronald Vaughn said that proceeds from UT’s plate would help support scholarships and academic programs.

“Buying one of these plates is a great way to show Spartan pride and in the process help enhance the scholarships and the educational experience at the University of Tampa,” said Vaughn.
