New Four-year Nursing Program Begins Fall 2002

The Florida Board of Nursing on April 10 approved a new UT bachelor’s degree in nursing that could help alleviate the regional nursing shortage.  The new offering in nursing will allow high school graduates interested in nursing to start their programs at the University.  

The bachelor’s programs previously in place required entering students to be registered nurses licensed to practice in Florida, which meant they had already completed an AA, AS, ADN or other associate-level nursing degree.  

UT’s new program will include a partnership with Tampa General Hospital, which will provide hands-on training and access to a new clinical laboratory to be built beginning this summer.  The program will seek students from other states and other countries who are interested in getting degrees at the University and staying in the area to practice.
