Former German Foreign Policy Advisor Speaking

Former German foreign policy advisor Dr. Dieter Dettke will speak at UT on Monday, January 29 at 7 p.m. in the Music Room, Plant Hall.  The public is invited, and admission is free.

Dettke is executive director of the Washington office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Germany’s oldest political foundation associated with the Social Democratic Party.  He has a Ph.D. in political science from the Free University of Berlin, also has studied at the University of Bonn and the University of Strasbourg, and was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Washington in Seattle.

The security policy specialist is a former foreign policy advisor to the parliamentary group of the Social Democratic Party in the Bundestag (German Parliament) and served in the German Foreign Ministry under Chancellor Helmut Schmidt in 1982.

As an author, Dettke has published a book, Allianz im Wandel, and numerous articles on security issues, East-West relations and U.S. domestic and foreign policy.

Dettke’s visit is sponsored by the German-American Business Council West Chapter, the UT International Programs Office, the Honors Program and the College of Arts and Letters.
