The Student Health Center is now offering the HPV vaccine Gardasil.
What is the HPV/Gardasil vaccine used for? - Protection against some diseases that are caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV):
- Genital warts
- Cervical cancer
- Abnormal and precancerous cervical, vaginal, and vulvar lesions.
Who can receive the HPV/Gardasil vaccine? - Gardasil is currently only for females ages nine through 26.
Who should not receive the HPV/Gardasil vaccine? Anyone who:
- Is allergic to any of the ingredients in the vaccine. (A list is available wherever you can receive the vaccine.)
- Has had an allergic reaction after getting a dose of the vaccine.
How is the HPV/Gardasil vaccine given? - It is given as a series of injections. The vaccine is given in three doses as: First dose, second dose is two months after the first dose, and third dose is six months after the first dose.
What does the Gardasil vaccine cost? - The vaccine is not covered by your student health insurance. We require you to pay the fee of $145.00 at the time the vaccine is given and we will supply you with a receipt that you can submit to your private insurance for reimbursement.
- If we do not currently have the vaccine in stock, we will ask you to pre-pay the $145.00 cost of the vaccine to reserve your dose when the next shipment arrives. We cannot guarantee the length of time it will take for a shipment to arrive, so please plan ahead.
