The FAFSA covers one year and must be renewed each year by students receiving aid.
Students who completed a FAFSA in a previous year should receive a Renewal Application in December. If the FAFSA was completed online, the federal government will send the student an Electronic Access Code (EAC) to allow completion of the online renewal application. Complete the form as soon after January 1 as possible. Students who do not receive a Renewal Application or EAC by January 30 should file the FAFSA.
FAFSA forms are available from the financial aid office or online at the
FAFSA Web site (www.fafsa.ed.gov/). Filing online can reduce processing time from weeks to days.
UT’s school code is 001538 and must be on the form in order for the University to receive the results .
A few weeks after the FAFSA is completed, students receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) by mail from the federal processor. UT receives student information electronically.
Students are advised to review Part I of the cover letter carefully and, if necessary, make any revisions in Part II. Send any changes to the processor immediately.
Please note that a change in housing status can lower a student’s need and affect the financial aid package.
Academic Eligibility for Renewal To continue receiving federal, state and UT aid, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress toward a degree or certificate. Satisfactory progress coincides with the University’s undergraduate retention standards. To maintain eligibility, students must maintain a satisfactory cumulative GPA and must successfully complete a certain percentage of the credits attempted.
