English and Writing Scholars |
Back to top. The Department of English and Writing offers annual scholarships up to $2,500 per year. Students may also be eligible to receive additional merit or need-based financial aid.
TAMPA WRITING SCHOLARS: are a select group of individuals chosen in a national competition to recognize outstanding talent and promise in the language arts. Entrants should have exceptional potential for achievement in English or writing and be applying as new students (fall entry only) at The University of Tampa.
PART OF A LITERARY COMMUNITY: English and writing majors at The University of Tampa are at the heart of a vital and innovative literary community. Home of Tampa Review and the University of Tampa Press, the University offers an exciting program of visiting writers. Past guests include Nobel Prize-winning poet and playwright Derek Walcott; Tanning Award and Pulitzer Prize winner W.S. Merwin, as well as authors Tim O'Brien, Jamaica Kincaid, Jane Hamilton, Stephen Dunn and others.
Qualifications: - New entering student (fall term entry only)
- Unweighted GPA of 3.2, 1100 SAT or 24 ACT
- Demonstrate exceptional potential for achievement in English or writing
- Major in English or writing
- Join the staff of a UT student publication
Please Submit: - 5-10 poems or up to 15 pages of short fiction, essays, nonfiction, journalism or a combination of various forms
- 300-500 word autobiography
- High school or college transcript

Government and World Affairs Scholarships |

Qualifications: - New entering student (fall term entry only)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Plans to study government and world affairs, international studies, urban studies, law and justice or pre-law
- High school GPA of 3.0 or above
- Volunteer/community service experience
- Essay (1-2 pages) describing volunteer experience
- Completed admissions application and acceptance for full-time study
- Maintain 3.0 or above grade point average

Life Science Scholarships |

Qualifications: - New entering first-year student (fall term entry only)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Students must major in one of the following life sciences: biology, biochemistry, chemistry, environmental science, forensic science, marine science (biology or chemistry), mathematical programming, mathematics, mathematics education, pre-dentistry, pre-medicine or pre-veterinary sciences
- High school GPA of 3.5 and 1200 SAT or 27 ACT
- Completed admissions application and acceptance for full-time study; no separate application required
- Maintain 3.0 or above grade point average

Music Scholarships:
Vocal, Keyboard and Instrumental |

- Demonstrated ability in musical performance
- Completed admissions application and acceptance for full-time study
- Must major or minor in music or participate in assigned ensembles each semester
Audition Information: - Audition date: Feb. 17, 2008
- Special audition appointments can be arranged or send a cassette tape with application and resume
Audition Procedure: - Complete an online audition application.
- Applicants will be contacted by e-mail to confirm an audition date and time.
- Prepare audition requirements for the degree you wish.

Nursing Scholarships |
Back to top. Undergraduate Nursing Scholarships: Samual and Julia Flom Scholarship – Awarded by Julia Flom to support registered nurses in furthering undergraduate education. Enroll in six credits or more and maintain a 3.0 GPA each term.
NLN – Organizations that may have funds available can be obtained by ordering the NLN publication “Scholarships, Fellowships, Educational Grants and Loans for Registered Nurses” at NLN, Publications Department, 10 Columbus Circle, New York, NY 10019 or call 1-212-989-9393.
Henderson-Donaghy Scholarship – Awarded annually to an undergraduate student who has demonstrated commitment to the values of nursing and expansion of nursing's influence in health care policy.
Mary M. McKay Scholarship – Awarded by former graduate Matilda McKay to support undergraduate nursing education. Students must demonstrate excellent academic performance and commitment to nursing science.

Graduate Nursing Scholarships: Florida League for Nursing Research Grant – This grant is available for research involving the process of inquiry on knowledge development for nursing. To qualify, applicant must be a registered nurse; a member of the NLN/FLN in good standing (send copy of membership card); and plan to conduct nursing research in accordance with the ANA Codes for Nurses. The application postmark deadline is early January. Applications are available in the Nursing Department.
Florida League for Nursing Scholarship – MSN matriculating students can apply for the Florida League for Nursing Scholarship. Students must be a current member of the Florida League of Nursing and a Florida resident for at least one year. Students must complete a minimum of six semester credits in the approved program with grades of “B” or better and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above, submit two letters of recommendation and an essay. Applications are available in the Nursing Department. Application deadline is early January.
Sigma Theta Tau Scholarship – The purpose of the scholarship fund is to recognize outstanding scholars by qualified nurses and/or nursing students who will advance knowledge in the area of nursing science and practice. Student must be enrolled in the Master of Science in Nursing Program with a 3.5 minimum GPA. Applications are available from the Nursing Department. Completed applications are also returned to the Nursing Department with a personal statement of professional goals. The scholarship deadline is the end of October.

Back to top. Annual UT scholarships up to $14,000 over four years ($3,500 per year)
Qualifications: - New entering student (fall term entry only)
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Experience in high school or community theater productions
- Demonstrated ability in stage movement/acting/singing
- Completed admissions application and acceptance for full-time study
- Major in Performing Arts (Musical Theater)
- High school GPA of 3.0
- Maintain 2.8 or above grade point average
Audition Information: - Audition date: Feb. 17, 2008
- Special audition appointments can be arranged or send a VHS video tape with application and resume
- Audition procedure: Two contrasting musical theater selections, one or two short monologues, and a description of your dance or movement background. Pianist provided. CD player provided if recorded arrangement is preferred.
