Performance Opportunities

undefined

Student theatrical productions take place at David Falk Theatre, a fully-equipped, thousand-seat theater originally built in 1928. There is no seniority; freshmen are allowed to audition for all productions in their first semester. UT’s numerous performance opportunities include:

Main Stage Productions
The University of Tampa celebrates musical theatre and the performing arts through four main stage productions each year: two musicals and two traditional shows. Auditions, which are held during the second week of class, are open to all students on campus. Performing arts majors are required to audition for all university musical theatre productions, while those pursuing minors are encouraged to audition.

Recent productions have included The Importance of Being Earnest, Schoolhouse Rock, Boy Gets Girl, and Into the Woods. Upcoming shows will include Tartuffe and Baby.

Cabarets
The department also sponsors two cabarets per year. The cabaret auditions are held during the first week of class; students rehearse on Friday afternoons in preparation for a final performance at the end of the term. Cabarets take place in the state-of-the-art Allen N. Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center. Each one has a theme (i.e., composer, topic, or time period). Recent cabarets have presented the music of Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Godspell, Wicked); William Finn (Falsettoland, Elegies); songs from the ‘30s and ‘40s; and a musical revue about relationships.

Spring Dance Concert and Dance Happening
Each year, student performers participate in the Spring Dance Concert and Dance Happening, both of which are open to all students. The Spring Dance Concert features choreography by the department’s faculty and professional guests and is held in Falk Theatre. In contrast, Dance Happening productions occur in fall and spring and feature more than 60 students as they travel across campus, stopping at various indoor and outdoor sites to perform dances choreographed by other students.
