Students desiring to major or minor in music must successfully audition for acceptance into the
Department of Music. Audition Requirements for each music degree are listed below.
To be considered for a music scholarship, students must audition and be admitted to the University of Tampa by March 1. Bachelor of Music in Performance or Music Education:
- Piano: Two memorized pieces of contrasting styles, with matching scales (four octaves, hands together)
- Voice: Two contrasting art songs or arias (both memorized, one in a foreign language); Demonstration of sight singing ability. Pianist provided. CD player provided if recorded accompaniment is preferred.
- Strings: Three-octave major scales, Two contrasting movements of J.S. Bach solo sonata, One movement of a standard concerto
- Winds and Percussion: FBA Grade V, VI, or VII solo or first movement of a standard concerto, major scales (two octaves), and sight reading. Accompanist is not required.
- Guitar: Two pieces in contrasting styles, major and minor scales, and sight reading
Bachelor of Arts in Music or Music Minor:
- Piano: two memorized pieces of contrasting styles, with matching scales (four octaves, hands together)
- Voice: two contrasting songs, one must be an art song or aria; (both memorized). Pianist provided. CD player provided if recorded accompaniment is preferred.
- Strings: three-octave major scales, Etude, One movement of a standard concerto
- Winds and Percussion: Etudes or a solo demonstrating contrasting musical styles, major scales and sight reading. Accompanist is not required.
- Guitar: Two pieces, major scales, and sight reading
Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts (Musical Theatre):
- Two contrasting musical theater selections, one or two short monologues, and a description of your dance or movement background.
