Lake Placid, FL - Honors at Oxford Participant
- Editor-in-chief, Respondez!
sfarrell@ut.edu My involvement in
Respondez!, the Honors Program’s academic nonfiction journal, began when my work was chosen for publication in the 2005-2006 edition. I was later selected to serve as an editorial board member, and served in this capacity while studying abroad as part of the Honors at Oxford program. At first,
Respondez! represented a unique opportunity to share my work with other Honors students, but it soon became much more.
As I became further involved with the board, I gained valuable experience as an editor and enjoyed reading and discussing the most insightful Honors work from that year. As a writing major, it was uniquely satisfying to help make others’ work the best it could be. I also learned to know other Honors students in an informal, tight-knit group.
Respondez! is a terrific way to give back to the Honors Program and enjoy doing it.
Becoming editor-in-chief gave me the chance to share these great opportunities with others. It has been enlightening to participate in every aspect of managing the
Respondez! staff, collecting and editing submissions, and interacting with writers and the publisher. I’m confident that
Respondez! has given me the tools I need to go on to a future position editing, writing for, or managing a publication, both inside and outside the academic world.
Respondez! has been one of the best parts of my UT career. I recommend it to anyone who has a love of knowledge and a passion for the written word. It will give you a perspective on the Honors Program that you can’t get anywhere else, and make you an important part of The University of Tampa’s academic legacy.
