Freshman Year/Transfer Students - Upon admission to the University, students should declare education as a major and ask for an education faculty member as an advisor.
- Take required courses. All education majors take a state-mandated core curriculum (subject to change). See catalog for details.
Sophomore Year - Upon completion of 30 semester credit hours, students take the CLAST exam or the Test of General Knowledge (GK) and apply for admission to the Department of Education Teacher Preparation Program. (All portions of the CLAST or GK must be passed prior to acceptance to the program).
- Maintain at least a 2.5 GPA
Junior Year - Begin 300-400 level course sequence.
- Pass the professional portions and the subject area portion of the Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE).
Senior Year - During a pre-internship, apply for the final internship (See catalog for application requirements).
- Complete final internship.
Records to Keep for Intern Application When applying for a final internship, students must provide the following information to the director of interns:
- SAT/ACT Documentation (on transcript)
- CLAST or GK Documentation (a copy of the official scores)
- Approved Admission into Teacher Education Program Form
- Passage of FTCE (official documentation of results)
- Unofficial copy of transcript (GPA minimum 3.0)
- Unofficial copy of transcript with GPA 3.0 in major (area of certification)
- Copy of signed 90 hour form
- Unofficial copy of transcripts with no "I" (Incomplete) grades
- Proof of county finger printing and criminal record sheet
Although other paperwork will be required, this list gives students an early indication of what documents should be saved.
